Buffalo Grove house fire 2-3-11
As the sun began to set on Thursday, emergency services in Buffalo Grove responded to a report of smoke coming from a residence located at 21 Chestnut Terrace. By the time the first responders arrived, thick smoke had completely shrouded the front of the house, prompting the initial alarm to be escalated to a Code 4, indicating an active house fire. Firefighters quickly identified flames in a second-floor bedroom that had spread into the attic. Their swift efforts managed to bring the situation under control. However, accessing the back of the property proved challenging due to towering snowdrifts, some reaching up to five feet high, which rendered the area inaccessible.
Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries, and family members confirmed they had already evacuated safely. Assistance from neighboring departments including Arlington Heights, Countryside, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Deerfield was instrumental in managing the incident. Interestingly, firefighters from Buffalo Grove had been out earlier that day clearing fire hydrants throughout the village, which facilitated their ability to establish a reliable water supply despite the challenging conditions.

One striking photograph shows Quint 27 extending its ladder to gain rooftop access for ventilation. Another highlights Truck 25’s team working on the roof to manage the attic fire. Additional shots depict Squad 26 providing essential scene lighting and an air bottle refill station while other images focus on the hydrant being meticulously dug out from beneath the snow to ensure firefighting operations could proceed smoothly.
