Working fire in Gary, IN 1-31-15

Hey everyone, I just got some updates from Eric Haak about what happened in Gary, Indiana over the weekend. On Saturday, January 31st, the Gary Fire Department had their hands full dealing with six separate fires within a span of just 12 hours. The last of these fires was reported just before noon and it happened at 24th and Colfax, only two blocks away from Station 13. There was another fire earlier that same morning at 36th and Colfax. From what I gather, all six structures involved were abandoned. This particular building that caught fire was a one-story wooden frame house, measuring 35 by 50 feet, with an attached garage. It seemed like the main part of the fire was concentrated in the back section, which looked like an extension added onto the original house. Firefighters initially tried an interior attack to control the flames, and they managed to knock down a significant portion of the fire. Afterward, they switched to an exterior approach to fully extinguish the fire in the rear addition. You can see Engines 8 and 13, along with Truck 2, in action in the photos. Here’s a quick rundown of the images: - **Image 1:** A vacant house engulfed in flames. [Caption: Eric Haak photo] - **Image 2:** Firefighters stretching a hose line on a vacant house fire. It's always tough when there are so many fires in such a short time, especially in areas where buildings have been left vacant. Let's hope this was the last of them for now. Take care, [Your Name]
