Working fire in Gary, IN 1-31-15

"This is Eric Haak reporting live from Gary, Indiana. Over the span of just 12 hours on Saturday, January 31st, the Gary Fire Department responded to six separate fires. The final one of these blazes was called in just before noon and was located at 24th and Colfax, only two blocks north of Fire Station 13. There was another fire earlier that morning at 36th and Colfax as well. The building involved in this particular incident was vacant, much like the other five structures affected. It was a single-story wooden frame house measuring 35 by 50 feet with an attached garage. The fire seemed to have originated in what appeared to be an addition to the original structure at the back. Firefighters initially attempted an interior attack, successfully knocking down a significant portion of the flames. However, they had to retreat temporarily as the fire reignited in the rear addition. The firefighters then managed to extinguish the remaining fire from the outside. In these photos, you can see Engines 8 and 13 along with Truck 2 on the scene. I took these images myself, capturing the intense efforts of the Gary Fire Department as they worked tirelessly to control the situation. The dedication and professionalism displayed by the firefighters were truly inspiring, especially given the challenging circumstances of multiple fires in such a short timeframe." [Attached are several photos showing various angles of the fire, including firefighters working to contain the blaze and different fire engines arriving at the scene.]
