Habitat for Humanity Partners With Rümi
Calgary, AB – Today, Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is excited to announce a new partnership with Rümi and its sister brands, ATCOenergy and Blue Flame Kitchen, to launch an Affordable Home Refurbishment Program. This collaboration will significantly enhance the quality of homes available to families through Habitat’s affordable home ownership initiative.
Home refurbishments are a key part of Habitat’s mission to provide safe, healthy, and energy-efficient housing. Before being offered to new homeowners, all homes are renovated to meet strict standards, ensuring long-term stability and comfort. With this new partnership, additional funding and in-kind support will be added to make these renovations even more impactful.
The in-kind services provided by Rümi and its partners include professional locksmith services, carpet and duct cleaning, window cleaning, and six months of free energy from ATCOenergy for up to 10 homeowners each year. Blue Flame Kitchen will also offer welcome meals to new families, while Rümi’s team will participate in a Build Day to help construct new affordable homes in Calgary.
“Rümi exists to make it easier for people to love the places they live,†said Marshall Wilmot, President of Rümi. “Supporting affordable housing is essential for building strong, connected communities. We’re proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta to help families feel at home.â€
In Alberta, 11% of residents face core housing need, spending over 30% of their income on inadequate or unaffordable housing. Habitat for Humanity helps families break this cycle by offering homes that are not only affordable but also built to last.
“We’re grateful for Rümi’s generous support, which brings valuable resources and expertise to our program,†said Gerrad Oishi, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. “This partnership will help us continue providing safe, stable housing to more families across the region.â€
Each year, Habitat helps over 20 families purchase an affordable home. Last year, eight families bought refurbished homes, and this year, 10 more are expected to do so. The impact of affordable home ownership extends beyond just shelter — it improves mental health, school performance, and community engagement.
Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing people together to build strength, stability, and independence through affordable home ownership. Since 1990, we’ve helped over 300 families across southern Alberta, positively impacting more than 1,000 children. Visit www.habitatsouthernab.ca to learn more.
