Toyota And Subaru Combine for a Home-Run Concept?

[TOKYO] The Tokyo Auto Show is one of the rare occasions where Toyota truly enjoys a "home field advantage," and this year, the company made the most of it. Alongside its traditional displays, Toyota introduced two exciting new concept vehicles: the FT-86 and the FT-EV III, which represents the next step in electric vehicle innovation.

FT-86

While the FT-EV III is designed as a compact, urban-focused car aimed at city living, the FT-86 takes a different approach. It's larger, more stylish, and offers a more luxurious feel compared to many of Toyota’s previous concept models. Its bold red color instantly grabs attention and adds a fresh sense of excitement to Toyota’s brand image. What makes the FT-86 especially intriguing is its collaboration with Subaru. Although Toyota was responsible for the design and development, Subaru handled the engine production. Additionally, Subaru will create its own version of the car, with some minor variations from Toyota’s model. As a concept vehicle, specific performance details have not been fully disclosed, but it has been confirmed that the FT-86 will go into production. According to reports from autoblogs.com, the car is very close to mass production. A more refined version is expected in late 2011, with an estimated price tag around $20,000. It’s also likely that the final production model will be sold under a different name, though Toyota has yet to announce what that will be.
