This afternoon on Thursday, October 6th, 2016, the Bedford Park Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire at 6650 S. Oak Park Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from a two-story building that housed a recycling center. Initial engine companies laid out lines while Tower 709 and Truck 31 deployed their main lines to the roof. Inside, crews encountered heavy smoke and quickly began working to control the fire. Multiple handlines were used to extinguish the flames, and at the end of the incident, MABAS 10 MVU was brought in to ventilate the building and clear out the remaining smoke.
