5-Alarm house fire in Kildeer, 7-30-22

The Long Grove Fire Protection District (FPD) and neighboring fire departments responded just after 2 a.m. this morning to a serious house fire at 21605 N. Tiffany Court in Kildeer. Thick black smoke was immediately visible rising from a large, two-story home, prompting an immediate upgrade of the alarm to a MABAS Box Alarm. Within minutes, the situation escalated further with the activation of a second alarm. The fire quickly spread, engulfing the entire structure, with flames reaching over 60 feet into the sky. The home was located in a remote subdivision with no nearby fire hydrants, making water supply operations more challenging. As a result, the alarm was escalated to a third alarm, along with additional fifth alarms for water tenders coming from Cook, Lake, McHenry, and Kenosha counties. Firefighters relied on four portable water tanks and a fleet of water tenders shuttling water from two fill sites. Engines from Lake Zurich and Lake Bluff were working together, drafting water to supply a quint from Buffalo Grove, another from Barrington, and various lines operated by Long Grove Squad 55. The response involved coordinated efforts from multiple agencies, showcasing the strength of regional emergency cooperation. Despite the difficult conditions, crews worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes. No injuries have been reported at this time, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Photos from Larry Shapiro capture the intensity of the scene, showing the massive flames and the significant firefighting effort underway.
