2-11 Alarm fire with a Mayday alert in Chicago, 1-4-18
I just came across some really interesting photos of Chicago Fire Department vehicles and scenes from recent fires in the city. The images capture Engine 54, Tower Ladder 39, and other emergency equipment in action. You can almost feel the intensity of the situations just by looking at them.
Speaking of intense situations, did you hear about the fire that broke out late Thursday night in an apartment building on the South Side? It happened around 11:20 PM in the Englewood neighborhood, near 68th and Aberdeen. Fortunately, all five residents managed to get out safely before the firefighters arrived on the scene.
Things took a scary turn when a mayday call went out about 20 minutes into the response. A firefighter fell through the floor inside the burning building. But here's the good news - he didn't suffer any serious injuries. According to Deputy District Chief Rosalind Jones, he was quickly pulled out by his team, checked himself out, and even went back to help fight the fire!
The firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the night, attacking the flames both from above on the roof and below on the ground. They managed to contain the blaze by about 1:45 AM. However, the fire decided to put up one last fight early Friday morning around 6:15 AM, reigniting while crews were still monitoring for hotspots.
These kinds of stories really highlight the bravery and dedication of our local first responders. They face dangerous conditions every day to keep us safe, often going above and beyond what anyone could expect. Let's make sure we take a moment to appreciate their hard work and commitment to protecting our community.
