Habitat for Humanity Partners With Rümi
Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is excited to announce a new partnership with Rümi and its sister brands, ATCOenergy and Blue Flame Kitchen, to launch an Affordable Home Refurbishment Program. This collaboration aims to support families in need by providing essential services and resources that help transform homes into safe, energy-efficient, and welcoming spaces.
Home refurbishments play a vital role in Habitat’s affordable home ownership program. By ensuring that homes are renovated to high standards before being sold, the organization helps provide stable, healthy living environments for future homeowners. With this new partnership, additional funding and in-kind services will be available to enhance these efforts.
The partnership includes a range of valuable contributions: Rümi will offer locksmith services, carpet and window cleaning, and duct cleaning. ATCOenergy will provide free energy for six months to up to 10 homeowners who purchase refurbished homes each year. Blue Flame Kitchen will also contribute welcome meals, helping new families feel at home from day one. Additionally, the Rümi team will participate in a Build Day to assist in constructing new affordable homes in Calgary.
Marshall Wilmot, President of Rümi, said, “At Rümi, our mission is to make it easier for people to love the places they live. Supporting affordable housing is a key part of building stronger, more connected communities. From utilities that keep homes warm to healthy meals that nourish families, we’re proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta to help make a real difference.â€
In Alberta, 11% of residents face core housing needs, spending over 30% of their income on housing that is adequate, suitable, and affordable. Every Habitat home—whether newly built or refurbished—helps families achieve long-term stability and independence through affordable ownership.
Gerrad Oishi, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta, added, “We’re grateful for Rümi’s generous support and the meaningful impact it has on our homeowners. Their contributions not only improve the quality of our homes but also strengthen our programs across Southern Alberta.â€
Each year, Habitat helps over 20 families purchase an affordable home. Last year, eight families bought a refurbished home, and this year, 10 are expected to do so. Affordable housing has a lasting effect on families, reducing stress, improving children's school performance, and increasing community connections.
