Lincolnwood has new Pierce tower ladder

The new Pierce tower ladder for Tower 15 at Lincolnwood Fire Department is now being prepared for service, with an expected activation date set for April 1. As previously noted in several updates, the station is currently dealing with a severe apparatus shortage. The building is overflowing with equipment, and one of the three ambulances has been forced to remain outside. Meanwhile, Engine 15R is temporarily stored at the public works facility, while both the new Tower 15 and the existing Truck 15 are taking up space in the apparatus bays. The future of the 1989 Pierce Arrow 105' rear-mount ladder remains uncertain. Larry Shapiro visited the station on Saturday and captured some photos of the new tower ladder. The unit is a 2011 Pierce Arrow XT 100' tower ladder, equipped with a 2,000-GPM pump and a 300-gallon water tank. It also features a foam system, though the exact capacity of the foam tank is unknown. This particular truck was built under Pierce job number 23700. The photo was taken by Larry Shapiro. Another image shows Truck 15, which is believed to have responded to its final fire on February 14. The unit was deployed during a 2-11 alarm at a structure fire on St. Louis Street in Lincolnwood. That incident marked one of the last calls for this long-serving apparatus. With the arrival of the new Tower 15, it’s clear that the department is working to modernize its fleet. However, the challenges of limited space and aging equipment continue to be a concern. Residents and local firefighters are watching closely as the transition unfolds, hoping for smoother operations in the coming months.
