Evanston 3-11 on 3-15-11

Last week, Evanston was hit by a 2-11 alarm fire on Oak Street. The blaze broke out in a historic Victorian mansion that was in the middle of renovation, with plans to transform it into a museum dedicated to clocks and stained glass. The incident drew significant attention from local media, with coverage appearing in both *TribLocal* and *The Tribune*. A short video capturing the event is also available online. An audio recording from the scene has been shared, offering a firsthand account of the chaos and urgency during the response. Several photos were taken by Steve Redick, a local photographer who documented the fire from multiple angles. His gallery can be viewed [here](#), providing a detailed visual record of the emergency. One image shows Evanston Truck 22, a Pierce TDA, operating in the 'A' sector at the fire. Another panoramic shot captures the scale of the fire scene, highlighting the intensity of the situation. A neighbor's YouTube video gives an on-the-ground perspective, showing the smoke and flames engulfing the building. Evanston Engine 23, the department’s newest unit, was seen pumping water in the alley behind the structure. Meanwhile, Truck 23, another Pierce TDA, laddered an adjacent building that had to be evacuated due to heavy smoke. A distant view from the street shows Engine 24 working in the foreground, while the fire produced thick smoke that affected visibility in nearby buildings. Engine 22, a 2003 Pierce Dash equipped with a 1,500-GPM pump, had a hydrant at the end of the block. Additional units, including Glenview Engine 6, Morton Grove Squad 4, DesPlaines Tower 81, and Winnetka Engine 28, were also on site. Winnetka Engine 28 had recently undergone maintenance, including a new door seal, updated graphics, and a fresh black paint job for the roof. This multi-agency response highlights the complexity of the incident and the importance of coordination during large-scale emergencies. The fire serves as a reminder of the risks involved in historic building renovations and the critical role of first responders in such situations.
