In Light of COVID, Autodesk Extends Multi-User Retirement and Accelerates Introduction of Flexible Solutions for Occasional Users

Autodesk Expands 2:1 Multi-User Trade-In Offer to Include Future Renewals

Updated February 22, 2022

We're seeing a gradual return to normalcy after the pandemic, and many of our customers are now more ready to move toward named user licensing. As a follow-up to the extended timeline we announced in November, we’re introducing new changes to give customers even more flexibility as they transition.

Starting February 25, 2021, eligible customers will be able to take advantage of the 2:1 multi-user trade-in offer not just at their first renewal, but at all future renewals between August 7, 2020, and February 7, 2024. This is designed to make the shift to named users easier and more accessible for everyone, especially those who may still need more time to adjust.

Multi-User Retirement and Flexible Solutions

The global impact of the coronavirus has been significant, and we’ve seen firsthand how it has affected our customers and the industries we serve. In March, we postponed the retirement of multi-user subscriptions to August 7, 2021, and delayed the trade-in offer to August 7, 2020, to avoid adding change during an already challenging time.

Now, as we continue through the pandemic, many customers have already taken advantage of the trade-in program. The benefits of cloud-based licenses have become increasingly clear, especially with the rise in remote work, cost optimization, and improved collaboration.

That said, we understand that change can still be difficult for some. To support those customers, we’ve extended the multi-user subscription retirement date to February 7, 2023. Additionally, starting February 25, 2021, we are allowing customers to use the multi-user trade-in offer at their first and all future renewals between August 7, 2020, and February 7, 2024.

This extension is especially important for government and education customers, who rely on Autodesk solutions for critical operations. We want to ensure they continue to have access to the tools they need during this time.

In parallel, we are accelerating the development of flexible licensing options for occasional users. Some customers only need access a few days a month, and we've listened. In September 2021, we launched Autodesk Flex — a pay-as-you-go solution designed for these types of users.

We know that change is never easy, especially when the future is uncertain. While many customers have made the switch to named users, others are still navigating this transition. By extending the multi-user retirement timeline and offering new flexible options, we remain committed to supporting your evolving needs.

If you have questions about the trade-in offer, the extended timeline, or ideas for future solutions, we’d love to hear from you. Reach out directly or join the Subscription Changes forum to share your thoughts.
