The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was introduced as the successor to the 456M, marking a new era in Ferrari's 2+2 sports car lineup. The dimensions were also increased—length by 139mm, width by 37mm, and height by 44mm—reaching 4902x1957x1344mm. Additionally, the luggage space expanded to 240L, a 25% increase over the 456, making it ideal for carrying golf equipment or other essentials. Despite its larger size, the 612 was 60kg lighter than the 456, thanks to its aluminum space frame. This not only improved weight distribution (46:54 front-to-rear) but also enhanced torsional stiffness by nearly 60%. The front design was optimized for high-speed stability, generating downforce for precise handling. Under the hood, the 612 featured a 5.7-liter V12 engine with 48 valves, producing 403 kW and 588 Nm of torque. Capable of reaching 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds and a top speed exceeding 315 km/h, it was a powerhouse. Standard transmission was a 6-speed manual, with an optional semi-automatic F1-style system available for those who preferred faster shifts. Available in Europe starting March 2004, the 612 was expected to command a premium price, with some reports suggesting it could cost over 10 million yuan in certain markets. With its blend of luxury, performance, and heritage, the 612 Scaglietti stood out as a significant evolution in Ferrari's lineup.
