Autodesk expands presence in on-set production, closes acquisition of production management solution PIX
Autodesk has officially completed its acquisition of PIX, a leading production management solution. This move marks a significant step forward in Autodesk’s strategy to enhance collaboration and streamline workflows throughout the entire media and entertainment (M&E) production pipeline.
By integrating PIX into its ecosystem, Autodesk is now better positioned to support on-set operations, which have traditionally been disconnected from post-production. This acquisition allows for seamless data sharing between on-set teams, studio executives, and post-production crews, reducing inefficiencies and minimizing the need for redundant work.
The PIX team brings valuable expertise and a strong industry network, which, when combined with Autodesk’s cloud-based technologies and resources, will lead to more efficient and connected workflows. This integration will also help ensure that critical information flows smoothly across all stages of production, improving overall project management and creative outcomes.
As part of Autodesk’s broader vision, the company is developing Flow—a cloud platform designed specifically for the M&E industry. Flow aims to unify data, workflows, and teams in one place, enabling more collaborative and efficient production processes. With the addition of PIX, this vision becomes even more powerful, as it now includes real-time on-set data that can be shared and accessed by everyone involved in a project.
Two years ago, Autodesk began expanding beyond post-production by investing in solutions like Moxion, which helped bridge the gap between on-set and post-production workflows. Now, with the PIX acquisition, the company is taking this integration further, ensuring that data captured on set is not lost or siloed, but instead becomes a central part of the production process.
This partnership opens up new possibilities for the future of content creation, allowing studios and creators to work more efficiently, make faster decisions, and deliver high-quality projects with greater ease. The combination of PIX’s on-set capabilities and Autodesk’s cloud infrastructure represents a major leap forward in how films and TV shows are produced today.
We are excited to welcome the PIX team to the Autodesk family. Their innovation and dedication will play a key role in shaping the next chapter of our journey. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in media and entertainment.
