1. Swing Check Valve: The disc is cylindrical and rotates around the seat axis. This type offers lower flow resistance compared to lift check valves, making it suitable for low-flow and large-diameter applications. However, it should not be used in pulsating flows due to its limited sealing performance. Swing check valves come in single-disc, double-disc, and multi-disc versions, depending on the valve size to reduce hydraulic shock and prevent media stoppage or backflow.
2. Lift Check Valve: The disc moves vertically along the body’s axis. These valves are typically installed in horizontal pipelines. High-pressure, small-diameter models often use a ball-shaped disc. Their design resembles globe valves, resulting in higher flow resistance. The disc is guided by a sleeve inside the bonnet, allowing it to lift freely. When the media flows downstream, the disc opens under the pressure, and when the flow stops, it closes automatically to prevent backflow. There are two types: straight-through and vertical lift, with the latter offering less flow resistance.
Check valves are essential components that operate automatically using the flow of the medium to open and close the disc, preventing backflow. They are commonly referred to as one-way valves, reflux valves, or backpressure valves.
