Autodesk expands presence in on-set production, closes acquisition of production management solution PIX

Autodesk has officially completed its acquisition of PIX, a leading production management solution. This move marks a significant step forward in expanding Autodesk’s presence in the on-set phase of media and entertainment (M&E) production. By integrating PIX into its ecosystem, Autodesk is making it easier for teams to share data across the entire production pipeline, reducing inefficiencies and streamlining workflows. The integration of PIX’s strong industry network and technical expertise with Autodesk’s cloud-based tools and resources will enhance customer experiences. It will enable more seamless collaboration between on-set crews, post-production teams, and studio executives, ensuring that critical information flows smoothly from one stage of production to the next. Efficiency has long been a major challenge in the M&E industry. Assets are often recreated, data is stored in incompatible formats, and important details can get lost in complex file structures. These issues lead to rework, delays, and increased costs for our customers. To address this, Autodesk is developing Flow—a cloud platform specifically designed for the M&E sector. The goal of Flow is to bring all data, workflows, and teams together in the cloud, enabling better collaboration and more efficient production processes. Two years ago, Autodesk took its first steps into on-set production, aiming to bridge the gap between what happens on set and what occurs in post-production. While Autodesk has always excelled in post-production tools, much of the critical data is generated during filming. Historically, these two phases have operated separately, leading to inefficiencies and missed opportunities. With the PIX acquisition now finalized, Autodesk is accelerating its efforts to bring on-set operations into the cloud. This allows for better communication between on-set teams and studio leadership, creating a more connected and collaborative workflow. By integrating PIX’s solutions with Flow, Autodesk ensures that data moves seamlessly through the production pipeline, helping to eliminate bottlenecks and improve overall productivity. By combining PIX’s deep industry knowledge with Autodesk’s cloud capabilities and innovative tools, we’re not just improving how content is made—we’re redefining the entire process. I’m excited to welcome the PIX team to Autodesk and look forward to working together to drive innovation, support growth, and empower creators to bring their visions to life. *The statements regarding the expected benefits of the acquisition are forward-looking and subject to risks and uncertainties.
