Fujian's first domestic supercritical generator set officially put into operation
The reporter learned from the Fujian Electric Power Department that the first 600,000 kW No. 3 unit of the Fujian Datang International Ningde Thermal Power Plant has successfully completed a 168-hour trial run and was officially commissioned on the 6th. This marks the first domestically produced supercritical coal-fired power unit in Fujian Province, representing a significant milestone in the region's energy infrastructure.
Located in Baimamen, Sandu'ao, Ningdehuan, Dongdong, the Ningde Thermal Power Plant is a key project supported by the state as part of its strategy to develop the economic zone on the western side of the Taiwan Strait. The project is divided into three phases, with a total planned investment of 16 billion yuan. The first phase, which cost 5.5 billion yuan, includes two 600,000 kW supercritical domestic coal-fired units. The second unit was expected to go online in August this year.
Once fully operational, the first phase of the plant will generate approximately 4.32 billion kWh of electricity annually, accounting for about 13% of Fujian’s thermal power output. Unit 3, which started from the initial installation to the completion of the 168-hour trial run, took just 21 months and 6 days, setting a new record for speed in the province and ranking among the fastest in the country.
Unit 3 also incorporates advanced environmental technologies such as flue gas desulfurization, purification systems, and zero wastewater discharge, making it the first large-scale "green power plant" in Fujian. Fu Dong, general manager of Fujian Datang International Ningde Power Generation Co., Ltd., emphasized that the plant’s location at the junction of the East China Power Grid and the Fujian Power Grid makes it strategically important. The commissioning of the Ningde Thermal Power Plant is expected to significantly ease the power shortage in Fujian and support the region’s growing energy demands.
