High-resolution "brain map" visual instrument research and development

High-resolution "brain map" visual instrument research and development The intricate network of neurons in the human brain is just like the road network on the earth. Nowadays, it is easier for people to use remote sensing satellites to resolve the road network on the earth. However, it seems that drawing a “brain map” is far more difficult than launching several remote sensing satellites. a lot of. Recently, experts from Huazhong University of Science and Technology are working to solve this problem. They have begun to develop visual instruments for high-resolution whole-brain neuronal networks.

After eight years of research, the team led by Prof. Luo Qingming of the school took the lead in setting up a microstrip slice imaging system (MOST) with independent intellectual property rights that can perform three-dimensional imaging of protruding fine structures on centimeter-sized samples. The results were published in the journal Science. The MOST technology has obvious advantages over traditional imaging techniques, creating the finest three-dimensional connectivity map of the mouse's whole brain neurons so far, creating the necessary conditions for the visualization of the whole brain network. The research results will play a very important role in the study of brain structure, brain function, brain diseases, and the effects of drugs.

Luo Qingming said that through MOST technology, a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the structure and function of the brain will provide an important means for curing a variety of neurological diseases. This achievement was selected as "2011 China's Top Ten Scientific Progress."
