According to reports, China has a number of more mature conventional environmental protection technologies and equipment. The product range of environmental protection equipment has reached more than 10,000 kinds. It has formed air pollution control, water pollution control, solid waste treatment, noise and vibration control, and comprehensive resource utilization. Equipment, instrumentation for environmental monitoring, instrumentation for environmental monitoring, and related materials and pharmaceuticals for environmental pollution control are relatively complete. The product system basically meets the needs of the domestic market for conventional environmental protection equipment.

As of the end of 2010, the number of enterprises engaged in the manufacturing of environmental protection equipment was around 5,000; the total industrial output value was nearly 200 billion yuan, 3.5 times that of 2005; the number of employees was more than 500,000.

There are four major problems in the development of environmental protection equipment. First, the scale of the industry is small and the degree of concentration is low. The existing environmental protection equipment industry is relatively small, and the industrial structure is irrational. The development of agglomeration is not sufficient. Lack of a group of large enterprise groups with independent intellectual property rights and core competitiveness, large market share, system integration and project contracting capabilities. Currently, there are only 2 environmental protection equipment franchises with output value of over 2 billion yuan; many SMEs specialization characteristics The development is not outstanding, the distribution of enterprises is relatively decentralized, and the socialization of production has not yet reached a scale.

Second, the ability of technological innovation is not strong, and key complete sets of equipment depend on imports. The mechanism for technological innovation is still not perfect, and the progress in the construction of an organically integrated technological innovation system for production, learning and research is slow. Some scientific research institutions do not pay enough attention to the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements. Most companies have relatively weak R&D strength and insufficient investment in technology development. With relatively low technological content and low additional value, single items and conventional equipment are relatively surplus. The autonomy rate of complete sets of equipment and core and key components that are urgently needed in some markets, high efficiency and energy saving is not high, and they are currently mainly dependent on imports.

Third, the standard system is incomplete and lacks product quality certification. Although the environmental protection product (equipment) standard system framework has been preliminarily constructed, the number of standards is relatively small and the distribution is not balanced. Standards do not play a sufficient role in regulating and leading the development of the industry. The evaluation index system for environmental protection equipment operation effectiveness has not yet been established, lack of quality supervision and certification mechanisms, and the problem of low product quality is more prominent, and the operational effect is difficult to guarantee.

Fourth, the policy environment that guides the healthy development of the industry is not perfect. Preferential policies to guide and support industrial development have not yet been fully implemented; market access policies are not perfect; environmental equipment tenders are not standardized; duplicate introductions and unordered competition remain; environmental protection supervision and law enforcement are insufficient; Insufficient student motivation has inhibited the market demand for environmental protection equipment.
