China National Heavy Duty Truck Sales Ranked in China's Top Three
In a recent report, it was revealed that China National Heavy Duty Truck Lanzhou Branch achieved remarkable performance in the first half of 2006, despite a generally sluggish national heavy truck market. The company not only reached new sales milestones but also solidified its dominant position within the industry. According to data from the National Statistics Department, total sales of heavy-duty trucks across the country amounted to 31,303 units during the period, marking a 34.8% year-on-year increase. The company's market share rose to 20.41%, up by 4.51 percentage points compared to 2005.
Industry insiders note that China National Heavy Duty Truck (Sinotruk), along with two other major players—China FAW and Dongfeng—continue to dominate the top three positions in the domestic heavy truck market. Together, these three companies account for nearly 65% of the market share. The gap between the second-tier manufacturers and the leading brands has widened further, with the second group holding about 10% more than the fourth-ranked producers.
Currently, Sinotruk maintains top rankings in several key categories, including sales of vehicles with 300 horsepower or more, heavy dump trucks, cement mixer trucks, and commercial vehicle exports. Cement mixers, in particular, demand high reliability from both the chassis and engine. Despite strong competition from foreign and domestic brands, Sinotruk continues to lead in sales with a significant margin, showcasing the superior quality and reliability of its core components.
Additionally, Sinotruk successfully transitioned to using its own engines. Within just six months, China National Heavy Duty Truck Engine Co., Ltd. gained widespread recognition from users due to its reliable quality, low fuel consumption, and minimal noise levels. Over 37,000 vehicles have been equipped with these engines. In many regions, even non-engine models are not being used, further highlighting the company’s comprehensive strength.
Looking ahead, Sinotruk aimed to sell 60,000 units in the first half of 2006, with an annual target of 70,000. This performance laid a solid foundation for next year’s goal of reaching 80,000 units in production and sales.
