High speed steel rolls are manufactured using a horizontal centrifugal casting process, making them composite rolls with a high-speed steel working layer and a nodular iron core. The HSS material contains a significant amount of alloying elements such as Mo, V, W, Cr, among others. The high-hardened eutectic carbides and secondary carbides, like MC, M2C, and M6C, are evenly distributed within a tempered martensitic matrix, providing excellent resistance to wear and thermal cracking. Additionally, the surface roughness resistance is also good. In hot rolling conditions, the contact points between the steel strip and the work rolls can form a thin adherent oxide film on the roll surface, which plays a crucial role in reducing wear and improving the quality of the strip surface. These HSS rolls are primarily used as work rolls in hot strip mills and finishing stands of bar mills, as well as rings in universal section mills and finishing stands of high-speed bar mills.
