The annual output of tires at the end of the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” will reach 300 million and the radialization rate will reach 70%.

On December 19, during the 50th anniversary celebration of the Beijing Rubber Industry Research and Design Institute and the Rubber Industry Development Forum, it was revealed that China's tire industry is set for continued rapid growth over the next five years. By 2010, annual tire production is expected to reach 300 million units, with 210 million being radial tires, achieving a radialization rate of around 70%, and 90 million bias-ply tires accounting for the remaining 30%. The focus of future development will be on safety, energy efficiency, and environmental protection. Over several decades, China’s tire industry has developed a relatively complete industrial system. Annual production of automobile tires has surpassed 200 million units, making China the second-largest tire producer globally after the United States. With the booming automotive sector in recent years, the tire industry has seen impressive growth rates. From 2000 to 2004, total tire output grew by more than 10% annually, while radial tires saw even higher growth—over 30% on average. However, challenges remain, as the product structure is still not fully optimized, with bias-ply tires dominating the market. The radialization rate is currently just over 50%. Radial tires are known for being 5–7% more fuel-efficient than bias-ply tires, offering better safety, energy efficiency, and environmental benefits. Looking ahead, the industry is preparing for a transformation in car radial tires. This includes accelerating the trend toward flatter tire designs, enhancing high-speed performance, and developing specialized radial tires with various functions. Heavy-duty tires are also evolving, moving from medium to light varieties, with tubeless and wide-base options gaining traction. High-strength materials are being used to create lighter tires, reducing rolling resistance and improving fuel economy, while also boosting the refurbishment rate of truck radial tires. In addition, engineering radial tires have emerged, and their development is progressing rapidly. Industry experts emphasize the need for domestic tire companies to invest more in R&D, update manufacturing technologies, strengthen basic research, and improve testing and experimental processes. Establishing automated production lines with independent intellectual property is crucial. As domestic tire production and testing requirements grow, the importance of building dedicated tire testing facilities is becoming increasingly urgent.
